Welding in new panels

Today we continued where we ended last Thursday.

Welding the new parts in place.

But first we repaired the firewall by welding in new pieces of metal. Below the pictures  of the finished product.
Then we welded in the inner fender part.

And at last the connecting piece between the A-pillar and the firewall.

Front axle

Today I continued with the removal of parts from the engine bay.
First I removed the airco cooler, horns and the hood catch.

Next the wiring harness for the ignition and  headlights came out.

During disassembling I took  pictures off where the parts and cables come from.
Like this breaker box it is located in the engine compartment with minimal access. I only saw it after the engine was taken out.
We might have to change it's location when putting the car back together.
Then I Took out the Steering box The wheel hub's complete with the suspension triangles and the stabilizer bar.
Now that the engine bay is empty I continued with the repair on the passenger side.

Here is a view on an empty engine bay.

Engine

The decision has been made.
This project now becomes a full resto project.
So today we're pulling the engine out.
Along the way I made a lot of pictures. So it will be possible to look back where everything went wen we're mounting the engine back in place.

First I dismounted the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Then all electrical cables were disconnected and laid on the engine.
This was the easy side.

On the passenger side I had to disconnect several electrical wires, the hoses for the airco and the power steering.

 Then the carburetor was removed.

And last the exhaust manifold. On the driver side the bolts for the upper triangle of the steering was firmly touching the exhaust manifold. So I will have to shorten these bolts when mounting everything back on the car.
After disconnecting the two bolts of the engine support brackets I was able to lift out the engine.
The remaining parts in the engine bay will come out tomorrow after which we will continue with welding in the new pieces.

Cutting the passenger side.

Today I started cutting the passenger sied of the car.
In the picture below a few cuts are already made and a few holes already drilled.

After a few hours work This is the way its looking now.
While cutting I noticed some irregularities in the bottom of the spring tower.
A hole is what I'm looking at.
So I decided to dismount the spring, shock absorber and top triangle to get access to the bottom.
After some cleaning I saw more holes in the top of the frame rail.
This need to be repaired.

Cutting and fitting on the driversside

Today I started with the removal of the panels under the cowl that are bad.

First measurements were taken for the holes to mount the fender.

Then all the bad sections of bad metal are cut out.
Then all the edges of the panels remaining are cleaned with a grinding wheel.
A view from the passenger side of the parts that are removed.
And then new parts are fitted and welded in place.
Next week we will continue.

Cowl parts arrived.

Some time during the past week the parts that were ordered arrived.
So Today I restarted the work on the car.
First I mounted the door cradle back that was used earlier. And then I made a support for the top of the window frame to the top of the door frame.
I did this to give the window frame more support since I intend to cut out a few parts under the cowl, fire wall and inner fender.

Next I've taken a good look at the parts to determine the places to be cut.
These are the parts that are a replacement of the for the inner fender.
These parts are to be mounted on the side of the car under the cowl.
This is the complete cowl .
These are the parts that should be on top of the inner fender to connect to the cowl. But these parts will not fit. They are for a later model 67-68?

And the parts for the firewall are also missing.

Tomorrow during working hours we will figure this out and look what went wrong.
