Removing the cowl.

Since the electric wire harness of the dashboard was out of the way I was able to cut out the cowl.
I started with drilling out the spot welds. There were a lot of weld to be drilled. At the end I was able to remove the top of the cowl.
This way revealing the look at the bad parts around the air inlets.
And at the bottom corner of the windscreen.
Next I was able to remove the bottom of the cowl.
For the rest we will wait for the parts to arrive.
That will take a few weeks. Hopefully sooner.

Wiring harness removed.

Today I dismount all the knobs of the dashboard ( ignition switch, light switch, cigarette lighter, wiper switch and fog light switch). After that I was able to remove the wiring harness from the dashboard.
That wiring harness? It's a mess and needs some cleaning up before reinstalling.
Then the pedal assembly could be removed.
So now it's time to drill out the spot welds.
But that will be for tomorrow.

Removing more parts

Today  I started with removing the windshield by cutting up the rubber seal. Then the dashboard cover came of and the heater box was removed.

Next came out the wiper assembly and some electrical wires were disconnected.

Then the brace for the suspension was taken out and the brake pump was removed.
And a lot mare parts that came out. Next week we will continue with the removal of the wire loom and the switches.

The new parts are ordered.

Today at work I we debated about what to do with the car.
It has to be repaired so the new parts are ordered at The Mustang Garage.
So I started today with the preparation of the car for the new parts.
The parts should arrive at the start of February.
I started with the removal of the plastic cover. Then the steering wheel came of next the steering column was removed.
Next the dashboard gets my attention. The radio and several other parts
The hood and the hings are removed and the chrome around the windscreen.
There are still a lot of parts that need to be removed before I get access to the metal parts.
We will continue tomorrow.

Cowl Trouble

Today I started with removing the surface rust on the cowl at the fender side.
Then I cut a piece of rusted metal away to replace it with some other metal.

What I then found is unbelievable. The inner cowl around the air inlet to the drivers compartment  is badly rusted. It had been previous repaired by inserting a piece of metal from the inside and then glassed everything together wit fiberglass. On the drivers side the inner cowl is rusted trough.

In the picture above and below you can see the Fiberglas and other stuff to seal the air inlet.
After removing the gunk the only thing visible is rust and a few holes where the inner cowl is rusted away.
A snapshot of the air inlet the bottom is almost completely rusted away.
I think this needs some drastic approach.
Removing the dashboard, windscreen, hood, electric cables and the steering column.
Then cut out the outer cowl to get access to the inner cowl and weld in some new parts.
But that is not for me to decide.

The front disassembled

Today I turned my attention to the front of the car.
There were some parts that I couldn't weld with the fenders in place.
So I started with disassembling the front of the car.
After a while I had plenty of access to the sides and at first it did not look to bad.

Then I started to remove some loose parts and rust appeared plenty of rust and some holes where the metal has been rotted away.
The drivers side is the worst.
A lot of bad metal has to be cut away.
The passenger side is not to bad but there also needs to be cut some metal.

The floor is welded.

The best wishes for 2016 to everybody.

Today I started with the mustang where i stopped last year.
Welding the floor.
All That was left were the 4 corners that needed some finishing.
The front was easy a few cuts and a few welds and that was that.
At the rear I had to weld in some parts that were cut out in order to remove the floor.
The passenger side was the easiest the part was in good condition. I ground the edges and tacked it in place.
Then the welds are done and the part is now firmly in place.
For the driver side I had to make a new bottom for the part. It was rusted away. The bad rusted section was cut off and a new section was made.
 They were then welded together.
Next the weld was grounded flat and the part was welded in place.
That was it for today.

The floor is now in place and fully welded.
