Sealing

Today I started with sealing all the seems with sealer.
The sealer used stays somewhat elastic and can be painted. The elasticity is important because it will not crack. The body on a car is always moving.

I started with the under side of the car. At some places you can see that the sealer is not fully applied. This is to allow moister (from condensation) to escape.
Next the inner fenders and the front of the car are done.
The inside of the car is started but need some extra work.
And the inside of the engine bay was done.
The rest will be done tomorrow.

Injecting

The first thing I did today was blowing out the hollow spaces.
There was still a lot of sand accumulated inside.
After a while there was no sand left inside them.
So I prepared my pistol for injecting the hollow spaces. Like the inside of the rocker panels. The seat reals. The frame rails etc...
The product I chose for this is a product that reverts the remaining rust in a tough layer Which then seals the metal from further rusting.
After the car has been fully painted those spaces will also be injected with a good wax to give a durable coating for a long time.
After a while the injection was finished and now the remaining product can drip out an dry.

The last welds

Today I did not have much time. I had to do overtime at work.

I did however take a picture of the rear fender edge.
I finally got to the inner fender and welded in the fabricated piece. I also ground the welds flush.
Paint will follow tomorrow.
And then the last piece. At the bottom of the A-pillar on the drivers side.
A small piece was cut out and a new piece welded in.
And here we are. All welding is done on the car.

Started the otherside

Today I concentrated my attention on the driver side of the car.
Most holes on this side are small and only needed to be filled in with some welds.
So this is the front of the repaired rocker.
And the rear of the rocker
On the rear wheel wells there was a lot of bondo filler used to correct the edge.
I removed it and saw that there was a previous repair not done properly.
On the edge there were some small holes and all what was needed was some filling with welds.

The edge has been taken care of but I forgot to take a picture.
I Then started with the repair of the edge on the inner fender. A piece was cut away and the new pieces were cut. one piece is already tacked in place but I forgot a picture again.
The rest will be taken care of tomorrow.

Welding some more

Today its a Holiday So I did not work on the car.
Yesterday I did but was to tired to get everything on the blog.
So Here it is.
I first put the car from the blasting cabin to the garage.
I first started at the junction of the rear window trunk and quarter panel.
First the spot welds were drilled. And then a large section was cut out.
I then had to make a new part to weld in place. Which was a bit difficult because the piece has a character line on th top which was decreasing from high to almost zero. But I got it done. In the picture below you can see the old and new piece side by side.
After welding and some grinding the piece is in place. All it needs now is some primer.
Next the front rocker panel is tackled.
The parts are cut out and rust removed and everything cleaned.
After making some pieces of metal and welding them in place it looks much better and has its former rigidly back.
 After some grinding...
And some primer its almost impossible so see the repair.
Then the next item. The battery box area.
While blasting the car I noticed that there was a lot of bondo at the place where the the battery is mounted.
So today we make a little inspection.
On the bottom side of that part we notice there has been some previous repair.
This picture below gives us a look of the part where the bondo sits.
Well after some chiseling and hammering we got to the bottom of its there was on some locations almost 1 cm of bondo. The repair that was made previously existed of 3 layers of plate on top of each other with a lot of rust in between.
So I made a big hole and cut the bad parts away.

After bending cutting and grinding  I had one piece of metal that filled the hole exactly. So after welding and grinding and some primer everything looks like new even the reinforcement bracket at the under side to which the battery box is mounted.
 A picture from the inside.
So that was one side of the car.
The other side of the car has still to be done.

Sand blasting & first paint.

The day started not like I suspected it.
Due to some miscommunication the sand was not delivered.
So I had to go and get it myself.
But finally I was able to get the car in the blasting area.
But then the machine would not cooperate and had to be repaired.
But finally at midday I was able to start the sand blasting.
After a while the whole car was done outside ,inside and underside.
Blasting also revealed some spots that were rusted trough. Like on the front of the rocker panel.
And on the top of the car near the location of the rear window , rear fender and Trunk lid.
These location will be taken care of at a later date.
Now its time to paint.
We used a good epoxy primer to seal the metal from the air and to prevent rusting again.
In the early evening the painting was finally done. I painted everything in 3 coats. The whole care So I had to crawl under it while painting the under side, 3 times.
But it got done and here is the result.
A view from the rear
A view from the rear side
 The under side.
 The inside.
 The front.
 And the engine bay.
Now we let the paint to cure over night and continue the work tomorrow.

Preparing for sand blasting

Today I started with the removal of the black undercoating of the car.
We removed it from the inside of the front fender (The portion that was not replaced).
And from the underside of the rear axle and trunk.
And the Rear fender.

On the inside of the trunk we removed the bondo that was applied to the seems of the body panels. They where cracked and let water to the seems. the proted.
On the inside of the rear fender near the trunk lid bondo was removed. Its hard to blast it off.
After some cleaning we put the car on a Big Cart with an open frame to give clearance for blasting the underside of the car.
And that was it for today.
